Who we serve

The Health Sciences Library’s primary clientele is the faculty, students, and staff of the Columbia University Medical Center. Services and resources are extended to affiliated users as financial and space limitations allow.

The Health Sciences Library does not honor Friends of the Columbia Libraries cards, nor any other card or privilege (such as alumni borrowing) purchased through the Morningside campus Library Information Office (LIO).

How access is managed

Physical access to the library is managed via Columbia University IDs and New York Presbyterian ID cards. If you do not have an ID card and should have physical access as described above visit the security desk  to receive a day guest pass.

Access to electronic resources (i.e. journal articles, databases, and ebooks) is managed via Columbia University UNI's (University Network ID). If you are denied access to an electronic resource or library service your UNI may not be activated or have the correct status level.

To check if your UNI is configured to allow off campus access to electronic resources log in to our website at this page. Upon login your Account Status will display a message indicating whether you should have access or not.
