During the month of March the Augustus C. Long Health Sciences Library conducted trials of two information resources, Lexicomp Online for Dentistry and MD Conference Express. Following below are summaries of the responses we received via the online feedback survey.
Lexicomp Online for Dentistry
Usage data indicates that there were 196 logins however, only a small number of users responded to the survey. All respondents were from the College of Dental Medicine and most were already using the product that is provided by NewYork Presbyterian Hospital. The Dentistry version of Lexicomp compared favorably, being viewed as slightly faster and easier to use. Comments indicated that the pediatric prescriptions section and the breakdown by subspecialties are potentially useful.
Based on the feedback survey, usage data, librarian evaluations, and budget considerations the library will not be purchasing LexicompOnline for Dentistry this upcoming year. We will continue to investigate the drug information needs of the College of Dental Medicine and will be open to reconsidering it in the future.
MD Conference Express
Similar to the Lexicomp Online for Dentistry trial the usage data for MD Conference Express indicates more users explored the product than responded to the survey. All respondents were affiliated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons and most identified as clinical faculty or researchers. Respondents indicated that they do not often need to look for conference information and typically get conference information from professional journals, PubMed and colleagues. The survey reflected that conference information is used to stay up to date and to inform research. The respondents did not view the expert opinions in MD Conference Express as useful for their personal work.
Based on the unique content in this new type of information product the library will investigate a longer trial period.
