Systematic review
We assist researchers who are conducting comprehensive searches of the literature that are intended to be included in the methods section of a published systematic review. Librarians can recommend multiple databases to be search, develop appropriate search strategies that will ensure that all relevant studies are identified, set up saved searches and search alerts, and advise on how best to document the search (eg. adherence to PRISMA). Librarians can also consult on tools and workflow for efficient retrieval of large volumes of full-text articles and review of these against inclusion/exclusion criteria, etc.
To set up an appointment for a consultation, please send an email request to hs-library@columbia.edu.
Alternatives to the use of animals in research
Experimental protocols that involve the use of animals must be submitted to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee for approval. Included in this submission should be a search strategy showing that a comprehensive search of the literature for alternatives to the use of animals has been performed (in compliance with Animal Welfare Act (AWA) regulations).
We can assist with the search for alternatives. To begin the process, please send an email to hs-library@columbia.edu including the experimental protocol, with the research topic, objectives and methods. Although, we do not encourage last minute requests, searches for alternatives are treated as a top priority and can generally be completed within 48 hours
