How can I read journal articles on my phone?

Read by QxMD and BrowZine are two apps that make it easy to find and download articles from library subscriptions to your phone or tablet with just one click.

Read by QXMD

Read by QxMD allows you to download articles for reading, annotation, and sharing.  Content is focused on articles indexed in PubMed, giving clinicians and future clinicians easy access to current research.  You can follow journals and save keyword searches to be notified of new content when it becomes available. Use your UNI login credentials to access full-text PDF articles from the Health Sciences Library’s subscriptions.

  • Download the app for iOS or Android.
  • Create a personal account to choose journals and specialties of interest to follow. You will receive notifications via the app for these journals or specialities whenever new content is available.
  • Configure Read by QXMD to access Columbia University-subscribed content.
    • Use the gear symbol at the top of the screen to open up settings.
    • Select “Institutional Access” from the menu.
    • Choose Columbia University from the list of institutions.
    • Select “Automatic Login Using Library Login” to save your UNI and password or “Manual Login” to be prompted every time for those.

BrowZine

BrowZine allows you to download and share articles. This app is designed for browsing journals of interest, rather than for finding specific articles.  After you select a subject of interest, BrowZine will list journals in that discipline available for browsing by issue.

  • BrowZine can be found in the iOS and Android app stores.
  • Create a personal account using your e-mail address. You will be taken to an institution list where you can select Columbia University and access Columbia's library’s subscriptions using your UNI.

You can then browse content by using the title of the journal you would like to see or by selecting the subject in which you are interested.
