I need a book from offsite storage

Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, and New York Public Library store older books at an offsite shelving facility, known as ReCAP (short for Research Collections and Preservation Consortium). Books at ReCAP can be requested for scan (following copyright provisions) or pick-up through the Columbia University Libraries online catalog, CLIO by following these steps:

  1. In the CLIO results list, click on the title of the item with an “Offsite” location (highlighted below).

  2. On the item record screen, the gray location box on the right-hand side presents two request options: Scan and Pick-Up. Choose Scan if you need a small portion of the book (such as a chapter) and prefer electronic format. Choose Pick-Up if you need the entire book in print.

Request Scan
  1. Select Scan under request options
  2. In the pop-up window, select the item and fill in relevant citation details for needed scan.

  3. Review and acknowledge the Copyright notice and submit request.

Request Pick-Up
  1. Select Pick-Up under request options
  2. In the pop-up window, select the item, choose preferred pick-up library, and submit request. Note that the request form does not retain previous choice of preferred library.

  1. An email will be sent when the scan or pick-up item is ready.
