Cochrane Interactive Learning

Cochrane Interactive Learning is a great platform for learning about systematic reviews. It offers 14 modules on the various steps and concepts involved in a systematic review. For example, there are modules on “Writing the review protocol,” “Introduction to study quality and risk of bias”, “Health equity in systematic reviews,” and more. Each module has videos, questionaries, and assessments.

In order to gain access to the modules, you need to register when you are on the medical campus or through the VPN. Registration is tied to the IP range of the medical center, and if you try to register from off campus you will not be able to access the modules.

To access the modules, go to Cochrane Interactive Learning. If you have an account, click on the upper left hand corner, where it says "login".  Once you are logged in, scroll down and you can take the modules.

If you don't have an account, you will need to first click on the button: Subscribe or Renew.

Click on "I accept the terms and conditions" and proceed to login or create an account.  Then you will have to click on  "SIGN UP NOW", it will be on the lower right hand side under "Don't have an account?".  Fill in the information and use your columbia.edu email.  You will receive an email confirmation.  Once you have signed up, you will need to login and then you can use the modules.

Users can start and stop modules as needed and their progress will be saved. After passing the assessment at the end of each module, there will be a corresponding certificate to download. Modules also have helpful tip icons scattered throughout to click for expert advice.

New authors aren’t the only users who would benefit from Cochrane Interactive Learning’s modules. Experienced authors can also benefit from refresher modules and can skip to the module they most need. Systematic review teams often split up the work, so chances are that even experienced users might be less familiar with different aspects of the review process.
